HISTORY
United Sisters began as a result of three women, from various organizations, who met at a local conference in 1999.
The women decided to maintain contact and meet monthly in an effort to maximize the use of resources disbursed among them.
Within months, additional women were invited to the lunch meetings, each expressing the desire to nourish the bond of support and trust that had surfaced from each gathering. As the monthly attendees continued to increase, the meetings resided over dinner and brought together a network that exposed the common interest of ensuring the positive development of family, education, careers, hopes and dreams in women.
Armed with encouragement and strength, the women set forth their objectives by transforming the group into a social organization. The name “United Sisters” was unanimously agreed upon as it represented the essence of the organization and speaks to the power that exists in a collective stance.
The United Sisters continue to attract new members that share the aspiration of assisting women to reach their full potential and raise opportunistic awareness via workshops, community events and social support. The mission is clear, attainable and echoes with the understanding that “together we can do what I cannot do alone!”
Founding members are Tenika Wilcox, Rhona Daniels, Danielle Cerrone, Camisha Pickens, Polly Pickens, and Jennifer Thompson.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in United Sisters qualifies you to receive “US” newsletter and reduced rates for workshops, seminars, conferences and other “US” events and to vote on “US” officers, topics and other related issues. Membership is $10/month or $100/year (save $20 with payment in full). Opportunities also exist for sponsors ($25/year), and donations.
